ranx.cloud vs DigitalOcean
Last checked · Cloud provider with 1-Click Marketplace Droplets (virtual servers)
These are different approaches to the same need. A DigitalOcean 1-Click Droplet installs the app on a virtual server that is then yours to run: you get root access and choose the region and size, and you apply updates and set up backups yourself. That suits someone comfortable administering a Linux server. ranx.cloud is managed: you don't get a server, but you also don't patch one, the app comes with HTTPS and sign-in through your ranx.cloud account, and Pro and Power include daily backups. At 2 vCPU and 4 GB the prices are close once DigitalOcean's daily backups are added.
Side by side
Price row: the Basic Droplet with 2 vCPU and 4 GiB, the size DigitalOcean's OpenClaw guide gives for personal use, against our Pro plan, which has the same vCPU and memory and includes daily backups. Numbers in brackets point to the sources below.
| Topic | ranx.cloud | DigitalOcean |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the server and app | Managed. We install, configure and run the app with health checks, memory sized for it, and harden its container where the app allows (non-root, seccomp, read-only root). There is no server or OS for you to look after, and no root or SSH access. details | You run the server. The 1-Click image installs and secures the app; afterwards you run updates yourself (OpenClaw: a script run as root). DigitalOcean's shared responsibility model makes you responsible for securing your data.[4][6] |
| Getting started | Pick an app, a name and a plan in the browser. The instance starts in a couple of minutes. details | Create a Droplet from the Marketplace image (OpenClaw, Hermes Agent and n8n are listed), then follow the setup steps on the server.[4][1][2] |
| HTTPS and address | Included: your own subdomain, name.ranx.cloud, over HTTPS. Custom domains are not offered. details | OpenClaw: Caddy serves the Control UI over HTTPS at the Droplet's public IP. A domain of your own is not part of the documented setup.[4] |
| Signing in to the app | Your ranx.cloud account (email or Google) sits in front of the app. No separate app password; OpenClaw's device pairing and n8n's owner login are handled for you. details | OpenClaw: paste the generated gateway token into the browser; if pairing is required, approve it with a script on the Droplet.[4] |
| Backups | Pro and Power: daily, the last 7 kept, restore from the dashboard. Hobby and Starter have none. Backups are not off-site. details | Paid add-on: 20% of the Droplet price for weekly or 30% for daily backups, or usage-based backups priced by size, as often as every 4 hours.[5][7] |
| Encryption keys | Per-instance Cloud KMS key. The instance's disk and backups are encrypted with a key of its own, destroyed when you delete the instance. details | DigitalOcean states that Droplet disks on the hypervisor's local storage and Droplet backups are not encrypted at rest; separate Volumes are.[6][8] |
| Isolation | Its own container, Kubernetes namespace and disk. A network policy lets only our gateway reach it, and the pod holds no Kubernetes credentials. details | A virtual server (Droplet) of your own.[5] |
| Infrastructure | Google Cloud, on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). details | DigitalOcean's own cloud.[5] |
| Price for a comparable plan | Pro: $29 a month, billed monthly. 2 shared vCPU · 4 GiB memory · 25 GiB disk. details | $24 a month (or $0.03571 an hour, per-second billing) for 2 vCPU, 4 GiB and 80 GiB SSD. Daily backups add 30%, so $31.20 a month with backups (our arithmetic). Taxes apply in some countries.[5] |
| Trial | 7 days free on every plan. A card is required at checkout. details | Promotional credit for new users; the pricing page describes a $5 credit.[5] |
Where DigitalOcean is the better fit
- Root access to a full virtual server, which you can use for anything else as well.[5]
- More disk for the size: 80 GiB on the 2 vCPU / 4 GiB Droplet against our 25 GiB.[5]
- Per-second billing with a monthly cap, and a choice of regions.[5]
- Open WebUI is available on the Marketplace today.[3]
- Backups can be scheduled as often as every 4 hours, with the retention you choose.[7]
What ranx.cloud does differently
- Nothing to set up or patch. The app arrives configured for production: health checks, memory sized for it and a hardened container where the app allows. See the apps.
- One login. You sign in to every instance with your ranx.cloud account, Google sign-in included, with no separate app password to keep.
- A key per instance. Per-instance Cloud KMS key. The instance's disk and backups are encrypted with a key of its own, destroyed when you delete the instance. How we protect data.
- Isolated by default. Its own container, Kubernetes namespace and disk. A network policy lets only our gateway reach it, and the pod holds no Kubernetes credentials.
- Flat monthly price per instance. Pro is $29 a month after the free trial, with no limit on workflow executions or agent runs; you pay your LLM provider separately. See pricing.
